Mayfield Studio

On Tuesday 23rd April I visited Mayfield Studio in Newcastle with my college class.

We talked to Photographers Martin Smith and Mark Jobson about the studio and their thoughts on the industry.

The studio, located on East Pilgrim street on the third floor of Curtis Mayfield house contains a white scoop/studio and a black studio with an office space and offers use of the studio with equipment and assistance.

When asked about their education, both Martin and Mark had previously studied at Newcastle College and decided to go into an extra year but felt that this wasn't as necessary and advised against it. I found their advice worth considering when thinking of a future direction after the course I'm studying, I could finish off the qualification into a BA hons with an extra year but in the creative and art world it's a question of would it be worth it or would it be worth trying to get into the industry practically as soon as possible with hands on experience.

The studio can be rented for the fee of £60 for a half day slot (4 hours) £120 for 8 hours and £20 each for additional hours
