Visit to Brighton Road Studios

With my college class I recently visited  Brighton Road Studios. The studios are based in Gateshead within a refurbished church, housing a variety of local artists, from propmakers and graphic designers to photographers and filmmakers, the latter of which we were there to visit specifically.

For the first half of the visit we met local photographer Mark Taylor who discussed his current work and how he came to be a resident photographer at the studios.

After meeting Mark we then proceeded to the top floor of the studio to talk with Reuben Jacob Abraham of Intrinsic lines of inquiry , a filmmaker.

Still from 'The Somnambulist'
A film about the red light district of Kamatipura, The Somnambulist is currently screening at The Baltic gallery in Gateshead.

Overall, I found the talk to these artists to be beneficial, their explanation of their working practices and their time in the studio was interesting. I also learned more about the benefits of working from a residence as opposed to working from home.
